Forest School

Swapping the traditional classroom setting for a day immersed in nature

our Forest School takes full advantage of our amazing grounds here at Ackworth School.

Keeping young minds engaged can be a challenge. Often seen as the highlight of the year, our Forest School not only engages students but builds a sense of independence and self-esteem.

Echoing the Coram ethos, Forest School days challenge pupils in a low-risk environment. The activities encourage and develop skills such as teamwork, leadership, and empathy.

Typical activities include:

  • Problem solving and teamwork tasks
  • Fire lighting and cooking over a live fire
  • Learning the use of tools such as a sheath knife and bow saw
  • Den building
  • Erecting tents
  • Knot tying
  • Arts & crafts
