The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
A nationally recognised award, providing opportunities for students to develop their resilience, sense of responsibility, teamwork and organisational skills.
There are three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. To gain the Bronze and Silver award the students complete volunteering, physical, skill and expedition sections. For the Gold award, there is a fifth residential section. As students enter the Fourth Form, they are given the opportunity to start the Bronze Award and they can complete Silver in the Fifth Form and Gold in the Sixth Form.
Training for the expedition section takes place throughout the year and includes sessions on navigation skills, cooking, campcraft, first aid and emergency procedures. Expeditions have been completed in the Howardian Hills, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
